An Analysis of Code-switching and Code-mixing amongst Students of our Lady of Mount Carmel College Muea-buea in Cameroon

The research work aims at providing an analysis of code-switching and code-mixing amongst students Our Lady Mount Carmel College Muea-Buea in Cameroon. purpose this study is to identify analyze Thus, the researcher used a qualitative method which involves recording utterances observation. instruments collating data were: note book prevent loss smart phone for utterances. collated were analyzed using Van Dijk functional approach discourse analysis. One major finding that Code-switching Code-mixing helps ease strengthen communication between teacher involved classroom interaction. From conversations collected, it was discovered two forms take place during communication, they are: intra inter-sentential code-switching. also several motivating factors as why students’ code-switch code-mix these classified under linguistic, social, stylistic factors. analyzed, evident linguistic are most prominent play roles code-mix. Lastly, observed can have positive negative impacts on students.
